A Touch of Grandeur
Dubai-inspired bathroom makes a splash
AS Grace Purdie relaxed in the grandeur of her six-star Dubai hotel suite’s bathroom, she knew she had to take a flavour of it home.
So, she called in Jason Short, of Newcastle-based Absolute Interior Design, to replicate the look at her own home as part of a top-to-toe makeover of her house.
“Grace had fallen in love with a bathroom in a hotel in Dubai and was determined to replicate it in their new home,” says Jason. “We used that as a starting point for planning the whole house, carrying themes throughout.”
Jason – the only UK stockist outside London of furniture by the renowned Californian maker Bernhardt – sourced luxurious American furniture and accessories for the house. His curtain maker dressed the windows and created the bedding, while his master cabinet maker created bathroom and dressing room furniture in dark hardwood inlaid with faux crocodile skin. Then, Jason’s Spanish wall finisher moved in to add a Venetian polished plaster finish to the bathrooms, creating a mirror-like sheen.
“It’s always interesting to work on an entire house like this,” says Jason, who worked with The Bathroom Studio, Kingston Park, Newcastle, on the Dubai-inspired bathroom. “Working on a big project like this allows you to create a look which extends throughout the house and lets your imagination grow with the project.
“In this house we created a timeless, classic look. It’s a look that stands the test of time and suits both the client and the spaces we were working in.”
